Wado Ryu Kobudo is a bespoke style of Kenjutsu, an umbrella term for all kobudo schools of Japanese swordsmanship. Some modern styles of kendo and iaido that were established in the 20th century also included modern forms of kenjutsu in their curriculum. Kenjutsu, which originated with the samurai class of feudal Japan, means “methods, techniques, and the art of the Japanese sword”.
The syllabus encompasses the Wado Ryu karate kata tailored to bring Katana no Kata (kata with sword), along with traditional waza (techniques), keiko (practice) and embu (demonstration) of etiquette, stances, and strikes, as well as patterns and forms from ITF Taekwondo with sword to the modern day.
